Heavy Metals Testing and Certification
Each batch (lot) of Banyan's herbal tablets is third-party tested for heavy
metals here in the U.S. by a qualified independent laboratory. The test we use
is called a "Five metal screen" which is the recommended method by the American
Herbal Products Association (AHPA). An important factor in heavy metal testing
is that the method for testing needs to be able to detect very small quantities
of heavy metals. Our test results are measured in µg/g (micrograms per gram,
which is equivalent to parts per million or ppm). The metals we test for are
lead, mercury, arsenic, cadmium and chromium. All of our herbal tablets are
within the allowable limits set by ANSI standard 173 for finished products. The
allowable limits are as follows:
Arsenic content shall not exceed 0.01 milligrams per daily dose (mg/d)
Cadmium content shall not exceed 0.006 mg/d
Chromium content shall not exceed 0.02 mg/d
Lead content shall not exceed 0.02 mg/d
Mercury content shall not exceed 0.02 mg/d
